Background

My name is Matt Maloney, I'm seventeen years old, I have two brothers Sean (15) and Aaron (14), my Mother is deceased, and my Father has been convicted of her so called "murder". My Mom and Dad, believe it or not, were a happy couple at one point in time. My Dad was involved in coaching baseball, soccer, basketball, and football. My Mom came to watch us in everything we did, she was a typical housewife. My Dad was a police officer for the Green Bay Police Department. As he worked his way through the "totem pole" of the department he became a liaison officer in the public schools. He helped kids in high schools with their problems, went to middle schools and gave speeches about staying away from gangs and drugs. And at the elementary schools he passed out football cards, and went out to recess and played kickball, football, and soccer with the kids. After his days as a liaison officer he became a detective. Throughout the years while all of this was going on my mom developed a prescription drug and alcohol problem. She became dependent on anti-depressants (Klonapin), and vodka. This problem increased over the years.

Many incidents happened over the years when my Mom was drunk, she would stumble around, bang into things, burn things in candles, and she would become abusive to my brothers and I. Most of these things happened when we got home from school and my Dad was working. One specific incident was when my Dad was at a Sensitive Crimes Seminar in April of 1997. My Mom got in a car accident on the way to pick up a pizza. She was banged up pretty bad and was placed in the hospital and released the very same night with a blood alcohol content of .25%. Anyone else would have been thrown in jail for that. But, because my Mom and Dad were married she was released. Jump ahead to July of 1997, my Dad files for divorce because of my Mom's erratic behavior, her denial of her problem, and unwillingness to treat it.
